Extra-Curricular activities are an important part of school life and provide an
enriching experience for many students. At CCHSG, we actively encourage
all students to take part in a range of additional activities which are on offer.
These activities serve a variety of purposes:
• To extend the curriculum beyond that offered in timetabled sessions
• To allow scope for practice for school teams, for rehearsals and performances
• To allow students of different ages and abilities to interact
• To allow interaction between staff and students
Most activities take place at lunchtime and after school, with occasional
weekend experiences, day visits or workshops. Many subjects offer activities
ranging from Music, Sport and Drama to Science and Geography.
The Physical Education Department offers a wide range of activities, often on
a ‘seasonal’ basis. Some of the sports on offer will have a team practice such
as netball, football, rounders and tennis, but all clubs are open to all students
who wish to participate for fun or exercise. Our school teams compete at
Local, District, Regional and National Levels. We have been very successful in
recent years with our Netball teams winning many District titles. In athletics
we have been District Champions for 19 out of the last 20 years. In swimming
we have been District Champions for the last 10 years – the length of time
the event has been running. In the Upper School our students can take part
in the Sports Leaders Award, which is a nationally recognised qualification
which allows the development of leadership skills. Students may also be
involved in organising sporting events for local primary schools.
Many departments also organise a range of Extended Learning Activities
such as inviting Guest Speakers into lessons, day trips and workshops in
conjunction with the wider community and other schools.
The list that follows identifies some of the activities that are on offer and
which we hope students will take advantage of.
