Music is so powerful that the absence of it is sometimes more noticed than the presence of it. Music at CCHSG is growing in popularity and presence.
The Music department offers a range of excellent opportunities and facilities. Students can partake in a range of extra-curricular ensembles available for all abilities and ages. In addition students can further their performance skills in one to one private music lessons on a range of instruments with one of our team of highly skilled peripatetic instrumental teachers. In curricular lessons, students study a wide range of topics and develop listening, performing, composing and theory skills, using class sets of keyboards, percussion instruments and apple macs to develop their music technology skills.
Outside of the music room, music at CCHSG is alive around the school. Students take part in concerts and productions throughout the academic year, in addition to the choral competition. The department has excellent facilities, including two spacious classrooms that can become one large rehearsal space, a recording studio, an apple mac suite, a sound proof band practice room and a number of individual practice rooms each equipped with a piano.
CCHS is proud to offer a range of extra-curricular ensembles. Students of any ability can sign up to most of these (although some are restricted to higher or lower year groups and orchestra is a graded entry only). Please see Miss Morrison or Miss Bugden for further information.
Students must have their own instruments unless they see Miss Morrison in advance to borrow a school instrument. The school can offer cellos, violins, flutes, clarinets, percussion and ukuleles.
Please can students make sure they inform the leader of the respective ensembles in advance should they not be able to attend a week’s rehearsals.
Students should bring their own instruments. Should they need to borrow an instrument from the school, please contact Miss Morrison. There are a selection of instruments available for hire, subject to terms and conditions.
