Consultation on Additional Form of Entry to Colchester County High School for Girls
In response to increasing demand for grammar school places as evidenced by the high number of girls who sit our entrance test, and the desire to offer the opportunity to more girls of all backgrounds but particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, to receive a grammar school education, Colchester County High School for Girls is undertaking a consultation on a proposal to increase to six forms of entry in future years. This would increase the current Year 7 entry from 160 to 192 students per year and would eventually take the total number of students in the School to 960 in Years 7 to 11 and in region of 1250 in Years 7 to 13.
Please note that the decision to progress with such a change is totally dependent on obtaining additional capital development funding which has not yet been received. The earliest that this change could come into effect would be September 2020.
The consultation period runs from Friday 08 June 2018 to 4.00pm on Friday 06 July 2018. Any responses to this proposal should be sent to Mrs Lesley Pye, Data & Administration Manager by 4.00pm on Friday 06 July 2018 via any of the following methods:
• By post to: Mrs Lesley Pye, Data & Administration Manager, Colchester County High School for Girls, Norman Way, Colchester, Essex. CO3 3US.

In Year Admissions
Applicants for places other than for the start of Year 7 will be tested if and when a place becomes available. The school holds an ‘enquiry list’ for applicants who wish to be considered for testing should a place become available. Where a vacancy does occur, all applicants on the enquiry list will be contacted and invited to sit the entrance tests. The tests are held at the discretion of the school. The tests and assessments will not aim to replicate the 11+ selection tests but will seek to establish whether the applicant can sustain the pace of the school's classroom education, fit the levels of achievement of the relevant year group, and has sufficient knowledge and understanding to undertake the relevant year group's existing programmes of study. An academic reference may also be sought from the applicant’s current school. The school reserves the right not to fill a place if the candidates are not judged to be of the required academic standard.
Please see the School Admissions Policy below.
Applications should be made on the Essex Mid Term Admissions Form (see link below)
