The Headteacher

Headteacher’s Welcome

It is my great privilege as the Headteacher of Colchester County High School for Girls, to welcome you to our unique and amazing community. This is a vibrant, happy school, providing an exceptional opportunity for girls to develop their talents, enjoy themselves and flourish as individuals.

Examination results are outstanding.  In 2016 over 50% of grades at Advanced Level were A*/A grades and at GCSE almost 90% were A*/A.

The learning and well-being of our students is at the centre of all that we do. We are extremely ambitious for our girls and are proud of our pastoral system and supportive, caring tutors.

The school was founded in 1909 to provide an excellent education for girls and continues to provide tradition and innovation to fulfil that aim in the 21st Century. The safe and secure environment fosters self-belief and raises expectation and aspiration.
We strongly believe that an all-girl setting provides girls with a comfort level that helps them develop greater self-confidence and broader interests, especially as they approach adolescence.

Our dedicated staff work together to provide a personalised experience, leadership skills, knowledge and qualities young women need to play a significant role in the complex global economy beyond school. We believe that our students will be leaders in whichever fields of work, academic study or indeed personal interests they choose in the future.

We offer a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities including clubs such as Drama and Fencing, community and charity work. We enrich the curriculum with numerous expeditions, exchanges and visits to places of interest in Britain, as well as other countries. Many of the activities are organised by the students themselves, demonstrating initiative and independence.

Our talented students often achieve local and national success in competitions, sports and music.

We value a strong work ethic, compassion, creativity and resilience. High standards of courtesy and respect are expected at all times. Our students have a thirst for knowledge and a love of learning. To support this, we have incorporated an iLab in our mSchool (Music, Mathematics and the Mind) which is a perfect catalyst for Creative and Critical Thinking, which is taught from Years 7 to 13. This provides a dynamic and investigative approach for everything else we undertake.
Above all, we are a happy and caring community and we hope you find our website informative, but it is no substitute for a visit on one of our Open Evenings.  Please take the opportunity to experience our amazing school.
